About Us Several years ago, we were asked to develop a first dance lessons class in Dallas, for a now defunct continuing education (C.E.) organization called Fun Ed. It would be called "Choreograph the Moment - Learn to Dance at Your Wedding". The idea came from another group back East, as it had been tried by some C.E. companies, with mixed success.
The registration staff at Fun Ed had noticed a large amount of couples wanting first dance instruction, but were unhappy with the general classes offered at Fun Ed for Country Western and Ballroom dancing. Some of the couples were asking for refunds, because although the instructors did a great job on what they were teaching, they could not focus on what wedding couples really needed...... a choreographed routine for their wedding first dance.
Since we had been teaching some of the Country and Swing classes for Fun Ed, and we were the referral instructors of choice, for anyone calling in for private lessons only, Fun Ed decided that we should form a group class, as the number of inquiries seemed to suggest that the class would make it's minimum numbers.
Alas, the first three months - nothing - then... BAM! - 12 to 25 couples per month, every month after that. Wow!!! The next five or six months, we developed a comprehensive program and developed special new techniques for teaching couples their first dance with speed, retention and a light hearted flair that made it fun for everyone attending the class. (Hence, the "Fun Ed" moniker.) It quickly became their most popular dance class because of the mix of accessibility, economy, and entertainment altogether.
For the groom: At the beginning of each class, we ask all the guys... "Who has been drug in by their ears and does not want to be here?" About 90% will raise their hands and agree, looking a little sheepish. Then we say "Ok, we know, but give it a chance, and let's see how you feel at the end of the class." Then.. after the last class, we ask the same question again, except we say "How many of you are now happy that you were drug in here by your ears, and are happy with what you have learned about partner dancing?" NOW usually 99% raise their hands with enthusiasm and go "YEAH!! That was fun! I'm glad I came!!!" The biggest comment we hear from every groom that comes in, about dancing is, "I just didn't know, this is actually really easy, but no one ever took the time to show me how to do it right."
Grooms, when you get through with our class, not only will you walk out on the dance floor with confidence, wanting to perform your first dance, but you'll want to dance to the whole song, not wanting to cut it short (like some couples who have not had lessons), because we'll teach you to "lead" your bride around the whole floor, like a "real man", and escort her off the floor like a "real gentleman".
For the bride: see previous paragraphs. :-) But really, every other married couple in the room will be envious of you, since chance are, they didn't dance like this at their wedding. They will all come up to you and say how beautiful you looked while dancing a "real" dance. All the mothers and aunts will now want to dance with your groom, because he's a "professional" now, and the flair and dip at the end, if you so choose this for your choreography, will yield thunderous applause, and numerous photographs for a lifetime of superb memories that are second to none. You will dance like the Queen, he will lead like the King, and the court will be "at your feet"! Sit at the head table and preside over your kingdom, because you will probably be the best dancers in the room!
Why Us? : Our instructors have between 5 and 25 years of dancing and dance training background. We have won numerous awards, trophies, and National Championships in numerous styles of dance. In the almost three years since we've been teaching these classes, we believe there is no one else in the metroplex who has the experience, knowledge, and training who has taught more brides, grooms, and family members than us. We NEVER ask the bride and groom to enter into any sort of long term contract or payment schedule, and we will never entice the brides and grooms with high pressure sales tactics. We greatly respect our dance teaching colleagues at the local independent and franchise studios in town, but it is their charter to have you sign up for possibly hundreds of hours of lessons, for THOUSANDS or dollars! It is our charter and our guarantee to teach you everything you need to know in usually a maximum of three private lesson hours, or one full group class and a follow up private lesson or two, and then get you on to your life, wedding and reception. Although we may never see you again, we hope that you might send us some photographs of your FIRST DANCE, so we can publish them on our website. We believe our lessons represent an exceptional value, with a high standard of quality, and availability to fit into most any schedule. After making the vow to wed, make the VOW TO DANCE, with Dallas First Dance!
